Middle-aged and old people have never looked any better than they do in the 21st century. My grandparents, my mother, my dad, everyone that was born before the 70s tells me that they used to eat only health food back in the day. Pollution was a problem in their times also, but it’s a bigger problem now.
There were a lot of handsome men in the Hollywood back in the 1950s, like Desi Arnaz, Clint Eastwood, James Dean, John Wayne, Gary Cooper and several others. But did they look as good as in their 40s, 50s and 60s. Today, we have actors like Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, and several others in their 50s looking more handsome than in their 20s and 30s.
What is their secret? The answer is Botox. It is a drug made from a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum called botulinum toxin. It is used medically to treat certain muscular conditions and cosmetically remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing muscles.
Most of the men and women use Botox reduce wrinkles and fine lines but many use the same to treat muscular disorders, some bladder and bowel disorders, excessive sweating and migraines.
Botox has become so popular that more than 6 million Botox treatments are administered each year all over the world. Botox is popular but it doesn’t mean it comes without any side effects. Some of the side-effects are as follows:-
- Decreased Eyesight
- Blurred vision
- Brachial plexopathy
- Neck weakness
- Weakness of the lower eyelid or lateral rectus (a muscle controlling eye movement)
- Temporary unwanted weakness/paralysis of nearby musculature caused by the action of the toxin
- Transient numbness
- Mild pain, local edema and/or erythema at the injection site
- Mild nausea
- Temporary upper lid or brow ptosis (drooping)
- Influenza – like illness
- Gallbladder dysfunction
- Drooping of the eyelids
- Dry mouth
There are also many other side-effects that haven’t been disclosed by the sufferers yet or they even don’t themselves that they are suffering these side-effects because of the Botox.
Even though Botox may help you in certain conditions but there are always some alternatives for those conditions and the foremost reason Botox is used is to make you look better if you have wrinkles. There are many people who use Botox as a preventive measure while they are young, for example in their 20s and 30s. It is very silly to use Botox preventively. Don’t do it.
How long does Botox last?
Botox comes into its full effect after 72 hours. For this very reason, first time users, on the first day think that Botox didn’t work on them, it isn’t so, it will take 72 hours for the Botox to come into its full effect.
Even though side-effects that come from Botox are both short-term and long-term, the good effects, i.e., the disappearance of lines and wrinkles only last four to six months. But the wrinkles and lines are often not as severe as they were before the Botox as your muscles have been trained a lot to relax.
